Guys, they've just put up another one of my blogs on the Huffingtonpost.com page, "Off the Bus." It's called, "The Problem With Hillary,"  and I'm proud that it's featured above the fold, like my first one, "Maybe It's Time" was.

It's about the Hillary-haters out there and my surprising discoveries when I looked into just how many there are, how much they hate her--I even asked some neo-con friends of mine for comments--and examines the question:  Do we really want to put America THROUGH this, once a bitterly-fought general election campaign heats up and the 527's go to work?

Come see me at "Off the Bus" and leave comments!  (If this link causes trouble, you should be able to go to the Blog page--click at top of the front page of Huffingtonpost.com--and type in my name for  search.)  Thanks, guys.

      Hi Deanie,

I have a blog with mostly conservative readers, and I actually had the exact same question in my mind before I read your post about it - why do they all hate Hillary so much? I wondered it even more after the last debate, in which I was actually pretty impressed with her.

Then I read your post, and I figured, I can probably get some decent answers. I was right! I am not in any way trying to be combative or snarky in leaving this comment for you; I legitimately did want to know what it was that was so abhorrent about Hillary, and I figure if you truly do want to know, too, then you might be interested in the responses I got (80 and counting).

I'm not sure this link will work and I don't know if I can post HTML here, but here it is: http://www.rachellucas.com/2007/07/i_have_questions_you_have_answ.html#comments

To sum: she's a socialist, she is a "Big Government" idealogue, she believes that govt can make better decisions for people than people can for themselves, she has no "real" accomplishments deserving of the post of POTUS, she's abusive to her staff and underlings, her positions sway in the wind of polls, the cattle futures and Rose Lawn incidents, the Travel Office scandal, her lie about being named after Sir Edmund Hillary and other things, her opposition to Medical Savings Accounts (again, the "people" can't be trusted to handle their own money), etc.

Many people provided hard data, links to articles about these things, direct quotes, and so on. I asked them not to comment on her looks or anything so shallow and/or sexist, and they refrained for the most part.

Many of them said they don't "hate" Hillary at all, they just don't think she belongs in the White House because of her whole "for the common good" ideology.

Whew! Sorry for the length. I would have emailed this but I can't find an address for you. Again, my only purpose in this whole thing was to find out for myself why many people (on both sides) are so opposed to her. I've been ignoring politics for a while but the early election stuff going on has gotten me interested again, and I have a very strong feeling Hillary will get the Dem. nomination so I decided I should have an actual opinion about her. And now I can thanks to all the info and links my readers provided. She wants to put too much power in the hands of the government and seems to truly believe that most citizens aren't qualified to make many decisions for themselves. THAT scares people. It's not that she's a woman or anything like that. She's seen as a socialist, which to most conservatives, including me, is the epitome of BAD.

Anyway, thanks for your time. I just wanted to put this out there because I had the feeling from your post that you genuinely wanted to know why people feel the way they do about her, and I felt like I got many dozens of excellent answers to that question, and they were logical and reasoned, so I wanted to pass it on. Have a great weekend!

        Rachel,

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your post and the spirit with which it was sent.  I wish there could be more civil dialogue of this type between the two opposing political views and less shouting and snarking.  I will indeed visit your website.  HuffPost wants me to write more on this subject, and some of my conservative friends have started to send some e-mails on the subject.  Initially, one or two of them were profane, but when I responded respectfully, that gave way to genuine concerns.  I intend to write a post for HuffPost soon on why Democrats should CARE what conservatives think--there is so much anger right now over the war and all the Bush WH scandals that it is easy to think, They had their shot, and they really messed things up, and we don't care WHAT they think anymore, but that would be bad for the party and bad for the country, I think.  And we need a candidate on either side who will respectfully listen to and consider the concerns of those on the other side.  It's the only way America will ever be able to heal its wounds.
